Naumai te whetu o te ata
Ka iri, ka iri, ka iri ki runga ki te motu
He ata huaki rangi
He tatau ka tuwhera ki te Whai-Ao, ki te Ao -Marama
Whano, whano, haramai te toki

The rohe of Ngati Toa Rangatira is based in the south western region of the North Island and the top of the South Island (Te Tau Ihu). The traditional rohe is described as being from Whangaehu in the North Island, the Tararua Ranges to the east, south by Turakirae Heads (Southern tip of North Island) to Kaikoura and west to Arahura on the south-western coast of the South Island. Its obvious landmarks include the Porirua and Wellington Harbours, Kapiti and Mana Island and the Marlborough Sound.

This map identifies these traditional boundaries and while there are a significant number of Marae that are located within this region, whakapapa, intermarriage, and overlapping interests from other Iwi as well as Ngati Toa Rangatira hold mana whenua. The four main marae that are included in the rohe of Ngati Toa Rangatira are Takapuwahia (matua marae based in Porirua), Hongoeka Marae based in Plimmerton, Wairau Marae based in Blenheim and Whakatu Marae based in Nelson.
